In late April 2015, Kabo and Moyenne Sido in northern CAR experienced heavy rainstorms that damaged several hundred IDP households. After a rapid assessment and meeting with IDP community leaders, IOM estimated that approximately 200 IDP households at the Kabo and Moyenne Sido IDP sites were moderately or severely affected.
To assist those IDP households affected, IOM rehabilitated 18 communal shelters, distributed tarpaulins to affected households, rehabilitated damaged roofs and walls, and provided technical assistance to those families who needed to rebuild.
The rainy season in Central African Republic (CAR) is especially challenging for IDPs and returnees, as their provisional housing is not suitable for extreme weather. IOM will continue to support IDPs and returnees during the rainy season with both emergency shelter distributions and more resilient homes.
