  • Since 2013 the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has assisted its member state the Central African Republic (CAR) to track displacement dynamics through its Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM). This is a system to track and monitor the displacement and population mobility. It is designed to regularly and systematically capture, process and disseminate information to provide a better understanding of the movements and evolving needs of displaced populations1 and other vulnerable people. DTM in CAR is conducted by IOM in close collaboration with the CCCM (Camp Coordination and Camp Management) cluster, the Population Movement Commission (CMP) and other local partners. One of the outcomes of the DTM is regular surveys on return intentions of displaced population.
After the violent incidents of 26 September 2015, a new wave or displacement was observed in CAR including Bangui in both host families and spontaneous IDP (internally displaced people) sites. The here presented survey on return intentions captures IDPs in host families for the first time in line with the strategic response plan of the humanitarian community in CAR following the September events.
